Welcome to Switherland, I have been involved
in the world of dogs for 26 years showing, breeding and judging.
I live in the UK close to the small town of Newark in Nottinghamshire.
This is where I run a small boarding kennels with my partner
for 7 years Marita Rodgers.
I am an International Show Judge, awarding CC’s in
the UK in Basset Hounds, PBGV’s & Beagles. I have
judged in Holland, Denmark, Finland, Ireland and looking forward
to my next appointment in Germany & USA.
My first love is the Basset Hound, acquiring
my first show dog with then my wife Jo, from Jean and Martin
Elliott Jones of the Cwmdale Kennel, a tri male born in 1979
called Cwmdale Kanine. My early success came when I purchased
a dog and 2 bitches from Brian & Pat Wedgwood’s
Karipat Kennel. Karipat Wildair who became a Champion, litter
sister Karipat Penelope who really became our first foundation
bitch and Karipat Sweetbriyne (Polly) who became the first
Champion in the Switherland Kennel. To-date I have bred or
owned a total of 23 UK champion Basset Hounds. As well as
producing Switherland Champions in Sweden, Norway, Denmark,
Finland, South Africa & Malta. The Switherland Kennel
has been top breeder (UK) in Basset Hounds for the last 10
years, Switherland have been prominent in Top Stud Dog and
Top Brood Bitch competitions over the last 20 years at home
and abroad. As well as winning groups and Best in Show at
General Championship shows. Possible the most famous and well
known Switherland Basset Hound is Champion Switherland
Blue Jeans whose profile you will see when you go
into the Basset Gallery.

My second breed is the Basset Griffon
Vendeen (Petit). I have the Honor of being the Chairman
of The Basset Griffon Vendeen Club, a position I have held
for the last two years. I have bred or owned a total of 7
UK champions in this breed. Possible the most famous being
Champion Willowbrae As You Like It, who was
bred by Judith Robin Smith, He is the breed record holder,
He has won many Hound Groups and Best in Shows at general
Championship shows. Again you may see his profile when you

Recently Marita and I have acquired two Basset
Griffon Vendeen (Grand’s). They are still only puppies
but we hope to have some fun with them in the show ring during
2006.
I have also owned and bred Miniature
Wire Haired and Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshunds
breeding a Champion in Miniature Smooth Haired, Champion Switherland
Lucia at Bronia. I have shown and bred Cavalier King
Charles Spaniels gaining a stud book number with
Switherland Sassy Lady, English Cocker Spaniels
Switherland Becker and also showed a Whippet
Barnsmore War Feather who gained a Res.CC but my first love
has to be the Basset Hounds.
Since being with Marita, who now plays a big
part in the Switherland Kennel, I do share her love of the
Standard Poodles, Bichon Frise and Afghans.
I am happy to talk to anyone who is interested
in my breeds and to share my knowledge of the breeds, by giving
help or advice. I will take great pleasure in showing people
around the Kennel seeing all the adult dogs and any puppies
